Korean Dumplings “Mandoo” (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Anyone loves dumplings?? well, I do fall in love deeply with this kind of particular dish. Dumplings are originated from everywhere, I guess. Yet, today I am making Korean style dumplings called Mandoo. Mandoo is typical comfort food filled with mixture of pork, onions, and stuff. Here is the simple recipe for it.

(Hari ini nyoba bikin Mandu alias pangsit ala Korea. Bentuk pangsit ini bervariasi tergantung selera, tapi bentuk uang zaman dulu ini yang aku paling suka. Dulu waktu masih tinggal di Busan, sering jajan Mandoo di jalan sebelah apartment. Mandoo begitu populer di berbagai kalangan. Cara makannya yang effortless juga membuat Mandoo salah satu makanan khas mahasiswa. Mandoo dijual fresh sampai dijual dalam bentuk frozen dalam kemasan di Korea. Rasanya gurih perpaduan antara daging giling, bawang bawangan, kubis dan lain-lain. Ini resep gampangnya ya. Aku bikin minim saus-sausan, karena pengen ngurangi sodium, silahkan pakai saus tiram atau kecap ikan jika diinginkan.)

Ingredients: (LOW SODIUM version –> feel free to add more according to preference)

  • 500 grams of ground pork (daging babi giling)
  • 1 egg –> beaten (telur ayam –> kocok lepas)
  • 5 garlic –> minced (bawang putih –> haluskan)
  • 1 onion –> diced (bawang bombay –> potong dadu kecil)
  • 1 cup of diced cabbage (kubis –> potong dadu kecil)
  • 1 cup of diced tofu (tahu –> potong dadu kecil)
  • 4 green onions –> diced (daun bawang –> potong kecil)
  • salt and pepper (garam dan merica secukupnya)
  • 1 tablespoon of soya sauce (kecap asin –> boleh tambah sesuka hati kalau kurang)
  • (optional) Fish sauce (kecap ikan –> aku nggak pakai)
  • Japanese Mirin/ cooking wine (arak untuk masak)
  • 1 cup of cooked Korean Japcae noodle/ potato starch noodle –> cut tiny (mie Japjae ala Korea –> potong kecil-kecil)
  • Mandoo pi (dumpling wrappers) –> kulit pangsit bulat
  • egg whites (putih telur untuk olesan)

Steps:

  1. Mix together all of the ingredients. Set aside. (Campur semua bahan dan sisihkan.)

2. Wrap the mandoo with wrappers until all the ingredients done. (Bungkus isian dengan kulit pangsit hingga habis.)

  1. Heat a pot with enough boiling water to steam the Mandoo. (Panaskan panci dengan ban yak air untuk mengukus mandoo.)
  2. Place the mandoo in the steamer and steam for 15 minutes. (Kukus mandoo selama 15 menit.)
  3. Serve on a plate. (Sajikan panas-panas.)
