Korean Tteokbokki (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Lived for 2 and a half year in South Korea, its glorious spicy food and snacks are always be in my heart. This is tteokbokki, one of popular snacks you can find almost in every corner in Korea. It has hearty red pepper sauce filled with boiled eggs, tteok (rice cake), and odeng (fish cake). Sometimes it goes with ramen in too. Well, this is the simple recipe for it.

(Yang gemar nonton film Korea pasti tahu yang satu ini. Camilan paling populer di Korea. Tteokbokki adalah sejenis snack yang dijual hampir di setiap jalan di Korea. Disajikan dengan saus pedas gurih lengkap dengan telur rebus, rice cake (teok), dan odeng (fish cake). Cari bikinnya sangat mudah, bisa dicoba di rumah.)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of tteok (rice cake)
  • 4 sheets of odeng (fish cake) –> cut triangular (potong segitiga)
  • 3 boiled egg –> peeled (telur rebus kupas)
  • 400 ml of chicken stock (kaldu ayam)

Sauce (Sausnya):

  • 1 tablespoon of Gojujang (Pasta Lombok Merah Korea)
  • 1 teaspoon of Gojugaru (Bubuk cabe merah besar Korea)
  • 1 tablespoon of oil (minyak goreng)
  • 1 tablespoon of Japanese Mirin (arak masak)
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar (gula)
  • 4 cloves of garlic –> minced (bawang putih –> haluskan)
  • 1/2 of onion –> minced (bawang bombay –> haluskan)
  • salt and pepper (garam dan merica secukupnya)

Garnish (Pelengkap) :

  • some roasted sesame seeds (biji wijen panggang)
  • some sliced green onion (irisan daun bawang)

Steps:

  1. Boil the tteok for 5 minutes on high. Drain and set aside. (Rebus tteok selama 5 menit api besar. Tiris dan sisihkan.)
  2. Stir fry the sauce on a pan and bring in the tteok along with the fish cake. Mix well. (Tumis bumbu dan masukkan tteok dan odeng. Aduk rata.)
  3. Pour in chicken stock and mix. Cook until the stock thicken. (Tuangkan kaldu ayam dan aduk rata. Masak hingga kaldu kental.)
  4. Put in the egg and mix well. (Masukkan telur rebus dan aduk rata.)
  5. Tun off the heat and move the tteok onto a plate, garnish with sesame seeds and green onion, serve hot. (Matikan kompor, sajikan tteokbokki dengan biji wijen panggang dan irisan daun bawang.)
