Indonesian Chicken Soup “Sup Ayam” (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Entering winter? Feeling bit cold? Try this easy and delicious soup recipe at home today. Super easy to make and use only fresh ingredients. Here we go!

(Teman-teman ini auk share resep gampang bikin sup ayam ala Indonesia di rumah ya. Menurut aku yang membedakan sup ayam Indonesia dan sup ayam kebanyakan adalah penggunaan merica putih yang cukup banyak, rasanya khas dan menggigit karena merica putih. Yuk, bikin bareng-bareng)

Ingredients (5 portion/ 5 porsi):

  • 1 whole chicken –> cut onto 8 pieces (ayam –> potong menjadi 8 bagian)
  • 5 large carrots –> peeled and cut chunks (wortel besar –> kupas dan potong kotak)
  • 1 large bowl of cabbage –> washed and torn (semangkuk besar kubis yang sudah di cuci dan disobek-sobek)
  • 1 large potato — cut chunk (kentang –> potong kotak)
  • 4 green onion –> sliced long (daun bawang –> potong panjang)
  • 3 stalks of celery –> sliced thick (seledri –> potong panjang)
  • salt and pepper (garam dan merica)
  • white pepper powder (bubuk merica putih sesuai selera)
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (minyak sayur)

Ground spices  (bumbu halus):

  • 4 garlic (bawang putih)
  • 5 small red shallot (bawang putih
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh coriander seeds (ketumbar)

Garnish (hiasan/ pelengkap):

  • some chopped green onion (potongan daun bawang)
  • some fried shallot (bawang goreng)

Steps:

  1. Soak the cut potato in cold water for 30 minutes. Drain well. (Rendam potongan kentang dalam air dingin selama 30 menit. Tiriskan.)
  2. Sautee the ground spices with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil until fragrant. Set aside. (Tumis bumbu halus dengan 1 sendok makan minyak sayur hingga harum. Sisihkan.)
  3. Boil 4 litres of water in a pot. Put in the chicken and sautéed ground spices, boil for 40 minutes with the lid on. (Rebus 4 liter air dalam panci, masukkan ayam dan bumbu halus yang sudah ditumis, rebus selama 40 menit dengan panci tertutup.)
  4. After 40 minutes, put in the carrot, potato, cabbage, celery, and green onion. Season with salt, pepper, and white pepper. (Setelah 40 menit, masukkan wortel, kentang, kubis, dan daun bawang. Bumbui dengan garam, merica, dan merica putih.)
  5. Boil for another 15 minutes. Turn off the stove and let the soup remain in the pot closed for another 45 minutes. (Rebus selama 15 menit. Matikan api dan biarkan sup dalam panci tertutup selama 45 menit.)
  6. Serve the soup hot with some chopped green onion and fried shallots. (Sajikan sup dalam keadaan panas dengan potongan daun bawang dan bawang goreng.)
