Gravy Chicken “Opor Ayam” (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Gravy Chicken (Opor Ayam)



1 kg of chicken –> cut 8 (daging ayam segar –> potong 8)
1 lime (jeruk nipis)
1,5 liters of fresh coconut milk (santan segar)
3 cm of ginger –> bashed (jahe –> geprak)
2 bay leaves (daun salam)
salt and peppper (garam dan merica)
some sugar (gula secukupnya)
Blended spices (bumbu halus):

4 garlic (bawang putih)
5 small shallots (bawang merah)
5 candle nuts (kemiri)
1/2 teaspoons of coriander seeds (ketumbar)
3 cm of turmeric (kunyit)


  1. Squeeze lime over the chicken and rub well. Set aside for 1 hour in fridge. (Lumuri ayam dengan jeruk nipis dan simpan dalam lemari es selama 1 jam.)
  2. Blend all of the ingredients for blended spices. Set aside. (Haluskan bahan bumbu halus dan sisihkan.)
  3. Stir fry the spices with vegetable oil until fragrant (Tumis bumbu halus dengan minyak sayur hingga harum.)
  4. Put in the chicken and stir well. (Masukkan ayam dan aduk rata.)
  5. Pour in the coconut milk and season with salt, pepper, and sugar. (Tuang santan dan bumbui dengan garam, merica serta gula.)
  6. Put in the ginger and bay leaves. (Masukkan jahe dan daun salam.)
  7. Cook with the lid covered on MEDIUM HEAT for 1 hour (Masak dengan panci tertutup selama 1 jam dengan api MEDIUM)
