5 Spices Deep Fried Quails “Burung Dara Goreng Ngohiong” (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Try this savory and addicting deep fried squall marinated with 5 spice powder. Here is the recipe!

(Teman-teman, ini aku share resep untuk bikin burung dara goreng Ngohiong sendiri di rumah ya. Aku goreng 6 potong supaya puasssss…Yuk, sama sama bikin.)

Ingredients:

  • 6 fresh whole quails (burung dara utuh)
  • 1 fresh lemon –> juice (buah lemon –> peras)
  • 4 cloves of garlic –> bashed (bawang putih –> geprak)
  • 2 teaspoons of 5 spice powder (bubuk Ngohiong)
  • 2 tablespoons of Chinese cooking wine (angciu masak)
  • 2 tablespoons of dark soy sauce (kecap asin gelap)
  • salt and pepper (garam dan merica bubuk secukupnya)
  • vegetable oil for frying (minyak untuk menggoreng)

Steps:

  1. Mix together the quails and lemon juice, garlic, 5 spice powder, cooking wine, dark soy sauce and salt and pepper. (Campur bersama burung dara, perasan jeruk lemon, bubuk Ngohiong, angciu, kecap asin gelap, garam dan merica bubuk secukupnya.)
  2. Put the quails in a bowl and cover it tight. Store in fridge for 4 hours. (Masukkan burung dara dan bumbu rendaman dalam mangkuk dan tutup rapat. Simpan dalam lemari es selama 4 jam.)
  3. After 4 hours take out the quails, tap dry the surface of the skin with paper towel. Hang the quails and let the excess sauce and juice drip for 2 hours. (Setelah 4 jam, keluarkan burung dara. Lap bagian kulit dengan lap kering/paper towel. Gantung burung dara hingga bumbu rendaman menetes habis selama 2 jam.)
  4. Heat lot of frying oil in a pan on MEDIUM. Fry the quails well until cooked and brownish. Set aside. (Panaskan wajan dengan ban yak minyak dengan api Medium. Goreng burung dara hingga kecoklatan dan matang.)
  5. Cut a quail onto 4 parts following preference. Serve warm (Potong burung dara menjadi 4 bagian per ekor. Sajikan segera.)
