Pork Coated Prawn “Udang Balut Babi” (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

My dear Abo, dedicate this recipe for you.. This is one of my grandmother’s signature dishes. She made a lot of these when we were kids and I have deep memories of that. Simply shrimp coated with pork, deep fried on vegetable oil without any bread crumb. Super delicious and kids will love them too. Here is the recipe!

Yuk, buruan cobain!)

Pork Coated Prawn "Udang Balut Daging Babi" (Bilingual Eng-Indonesia)

Ingredients:

– 12 medium prawn –> peeled, clean and straighten the body (udang ukuran sejempol tangan –> kupas kulitnya dan buang serat hitam nya, cuci, lalu luruskan badannya)

– 600 grams of ground pork (daging babi giling)

– 1 egg –> beaten (telur ayam –> kocok lepas)

– 1 tablespoon of garlic powder (bubuk bawang putih)

– salt and pepper (garam dan merica bubuk secukupnya)

– 2 teaspoon of oyster sauce (saus tiram)

– 2 teaspoon of potato starch (maizena/ tapioka)

– some vegetable oil for frying (minyak untuk menggoreng)

– any dipping sauce you like (saus cocolan kegemaran)

Рsome all purpose flour for coating (tepung terigu untuk lapisan dagingnya)

Steps:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the pork, egg, garlic powder, salt and pepper, oyster sauce, and potato starch. Mix well with your hand/spatula. Set aside.

(Pada sebuah mangkuk, campurkan daging babi giling, telur, bubuk bawang putih, garam dan merica secukupnya, saus tiram dan maizena/tapioka. Aduk hingga rata betul dengan tangan bersih atau spatula. Sisihkan.)

  1. Put the all purpose flour on a plate. Dredge the prawn on the flour then tap the excess flour from it.

(Letakkan tepung terigu pada sebuah piring. Baluri udang dengan tepung tipis tipis.)

  1. Heat a pot on MEDIUM with vegetable oil to deep fry the prawn later.

(Panaskan wajan dengan api medium, tuang minyak secukupnya untuk menggoreng udang daging nanti.)

  1. Divide the pork onto 12 equal pieces. Rub your palms with clean/new vegetable oil. Take on piece of pork and round it. Push it around shaping thick disk. Put one prawn on the center of it and seal it tight. Press the pork slightly around the prawn evenly. Sprinkle the pork coat with all purpose flour. Set aside. Repeat until done.

(Bagi daging babi menjadi 12 bagian. Olesi telapak tangan dengan minyak goreng bersih. Ambil satu bagian daging babi dan bentuk bulat. Pipihkan menjadi bentuk bundar agak tebal, letakkan satu udang ditengah nya dan rapatkan. Tekan-tekan daging babi supaya melekat sempurna pada udang. Taburi permukaan daging babi dengan tepung terigu tipis tipis saja. Ulangi hingga selesai dan sisihkan.)

  1. Deep fry the prawn in the vegetable oil until they are golden brown and the prawn cooked, for about 7-8 minutes. Drain the excess oil from the prawn and serve warm with your fave sauce.

(Goreng udang balut dalam minyak panas hingga kecoklatan dan udang matang, kurang lebih selama 7-8 menit. Tiriskan minyaknya dan sajikan segera dengan saus kesayanganmu. Selamat menikmati!)
