Easy Veggie Rice “Nasi Sayur ala Pak Jo” (Bilingual Eng-Indo)

Basically simple steamed rice, served with stir fry vegetable (I’m using radish leaves) with spicy sauce and homemade noddly. Very popular back to my hometown Indonesia especially Surabaya. Well, very simple yet very addicting and healthy. Let’s try it soon..

Easy Veggie Rice "Nasi Sayur Pak Jo"

Ingredients (1 portion/ 1 porsi):

  • 1 medium bowl of steamed rice (nasi sepiring)
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (2 sendok makan minyak sayur)
  • 2 red jalapeño –> blend smooth (2 lombok merah besar (diuleg halus)
  • 50 grams of egg noodle –> boiled and drained (50 gram mie kuning mentah/ mie telur biasa)
  • 2 cloves of garlic –> bashed (2 bawang putih (geprek)
  • 2 small shallots –> sliced thin (2 bawang merah (iris tipis)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce (saus tiram 1/2 sendok makan)
  • salt and pepper (garam dan merica bubuk secukupnya)
  • 1 cluster of daikon radish leaves –> chopped small (seikat sawi hijau (potong kecil kecil)
  • fried/ oven roasted onion (bawang goreng secukupnya)
  • pickles (acar mentimun lombok)

Steps:

  1. Heat frying pan on high. Pour in vegetable oil and wait until it’s hot. Stir fry the garlic until fragrant, put in shallots and blended red jalapeño. Stir fry until the jalapeño fragrant and has no more natural juice (you can sense the nice fragrant smell from it). Put in the daikon radish leaves and stir well. (Panaskan wajan dengan api besar. tuang minyak sayur dan tunggu hingga panas, tumis bawang putih geprek hingga harum, masukkan bawang merah dan lombok merah uleg. Tumis hingga cairan lombok habis dan wangi lombok menyeruak. Masukkan sawi dan aduk rata)
  2. Season with oyster sauce, salt and pepper. Put in the noodle and stir fry again for 3-5 minutes or until the veggie and noodle absorb the spices. (Bumbui dengan saus tiram, garam dan merica secukupnya. Masukkan mie basah/ mie telur, tumis selama 3-5 menit hingga bumbu meresap.)
  3. Put in the stir fried veggie and noodle on the steamed rice, sprinkle with fried/ oven roasted onion and pickles. Serve immediately. (Letakkan sayur dan mie tumis diatas nasi putih, taburi bawang goreng dan acar cabe. Sajikan segera.)
