Sweet Chicken Stew “Ayam Kecap Suun” (Bilingual Eng-Indo)

My mind goes to similar look of Korean dish back in our memories of Busan, Ddakdoritang a.ka. Spicy Chicken Stew. They use spicy pepper paste yet I didn’t use any in this recipe. This is another comfort food you can enjoy for dinner. Try it soon!

(Teman-teman ini aku share resep bikin Ayam Kecap Suun yang dilengkapi sama wortel, kentang dan suun, sekilas mirip dengan Ddakdoritang asal Korea, tapi ini versi nggak pedesnya. Yuk, cobain!)

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of chicken legs (paha ayam potong)
  • 50 grams of glass noodle –> soak until soft (suun/ sohun –> rendam dalam air hingga lunak)
  • 2 large carrots –> cut onto 1 to 1-1/2 inch each (wortel ukuran bear –> potong seukuran 1,5-2 cm)
  • 1 onion –> sliced onto 4 pieces (bawang bombay dipotong menjadi 4)
  • 3 medium potato –> pealed, cut onto chunks and deep fried until golden brown (kentang –> kupas dan potong agak besar, lalu digoreng sebentar hingga keemasan)
  • 2 leek –> sliced long (bawang prei –> potong memanjang)
  • 3 cloves of garlic –> diced (bawang putih –> potong dadu kecil)
  • 700 ml of chicken stock (kaldu ayam)
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce (kecap asin)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (saus tiram)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt (garam)
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper (bubuk merica hitam)
  • 2 tablespoon honey (madu)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil (minyak wijen)
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (minyak sayur)

Steps:

1. Preheat big pan on medium. Pour in vegetable oil and saute the garlic and onion when the oil is hot enough, saute until fragrant.

(Panaskan wajan besar dengan api medium. Tuang minyak sayur dan tumis bawang putih dan bawang bombay hingga harum.)

2. Put in the chicken legs and stir well. Then, put in the carrot and friend potato chunks. Put in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, ground black pepper and honey. Stir well and pour in the chicken stock. Boil for about 40 minutes. Monitor the chicken when cooking, we don’t want them to be burnt, keep on flipping them upside down for evenly cooking.

(Masukkan paha ayam dan aduk rata. Masukkan potongan wortel dan kentang goreng. Tuang kecap asin, saus tiram, garam, bubuk merica hitam, dan madu. Aduk rata dan tuangkan kaldu ayam. Rebus selama 40 menit. Awasi ayam sambil di bolak balik supaya matang merata, jangan biarkan rebusan tanpa pengawasan, bisa gosong.)

3. After 40 minutes, put in soaked glass noodle. Cook for another 10 minutes. Pour in the sesame oil and stir. The last, sprinkle the sliced leek and stir again well. Done! Serve hot with your fave carbs.

(Setelah 40 menit, masukkan suun yang telah lunak. Masak lagi selama 10 menit. Tuang minyak wijen dan aduk lagi. Taburkan irisan bawang prei dan aduk rata. Angkat dari api dan sajikan segera.)
