Croquette “Kroket Kentang” (Bilingual Eng-Indo)

Thinking of something potato for snack this evening? Here is the recipe you can try at home soon. Smooth potato filled with spam with some carrot and fresh chives too. You can make different shapes you like but mine here is small volcano. Here we go!

(Teman-teman, ini aku share resep kroket kantang isi daging spam (boleh diisi daging lain sesuai selera, kentangnya aku kasih potongan wortel dan kucai kecil. Aku bentuk seperti gunung kecil supaya asyik. Bisa dimakan sama saus mayones, saus tomat, atau saus sambal. Yuk, cobain!)

Croquette

Ingredients:

– 500 grams of medium potato (kentang ukuran sedang)

– 150 grams of spam meat (daging spam/ Ma Ling/ boleh diganti ham juga)

– 1 egg (telur ayam)

– some chives (kucai secukupnya)

– 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic (bawang putih yang sudah dihaluskan)

– 1 carrot (wortel)

– 1/2 teaspoon of salt (garam)

– 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper (bubuk merica hitam)

– bread crumbs (tepung panir/tepung roti)

– 2 eggs (for coating) (telur ayam untuk lapisan kentang)

– oil for frying (minyak untuk menggoreng)

Steps:

1. Peel the potato and cut onto chunks and fry them in hot oil until golden brown.

(Kupas kentang lalu potong kotak-kotak dan goreng hingga kecoklatan.)

2. Peel and cut the carrots onto tiny dices. Cut the chives about 0,5 cm long. Cut the spam onto small rectangle (1×2 cm). Set aside.

(Kupas dan potong wortel seukuran dadu sangat kecil. Potong kucai sepanjang 0,5 cm. Potong pula spam/ Ma Ling/ ham menjadi ukuran 1×2 cm. Sisihkan)

3. When the potato is cooked well, drain the excess oil from it and put them in a big bowl. Mash the potato until smooth.

(Jika kentang sudah matang, tiriskan sebentar dan langsung letakkan dalam mangkuk besar. Haluskan kentang hingga benar-benar lembut merata.)

4. Put in salt, pepper, 1 beaten egg, minced garlic, cut carrot and chives to the bowl. Mix them all well using spatula for couple minutes.

(Masukkan garam, bubuk merica hitam, telur yang telah dikocok sebentar, bawang putih yang sudah dihaluskan, potongan wortel dan kucai kedalam mangkuk berisi kentang halus. Aduk hingga benar benar rata selama beberapa menit.)

5. Take one ice cream scoop of mashed potato, put it on your palm and flatten it around using your opposite fingers to make disk shape. Put the cut spam on the center of the potato and start to put it back together (covering the spam)and form a ball. Slightly roll on side of the ball using both hands to form sharp triangular shape (like a volcano). Repeat the process untill the potato and spam are finished.

(Ambil satu skup (gunakan skup untuk es krim/ sendok) kentang dan letakkan di telapak tangan. Perlahan pipihkan kentang menjadi bentuk bundar dan letakkan potongan spam/Ma Ling/ ham di tengah kentang. Rapatkan dan bentuk bola. Guling perlahan salah satu sisi bola dengan menggunakan kedua tangan hingga membentuk lancip (bentuk gunung kecil). Ulangi proses ini hingga semua kentang dan isian habis.)

6. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan on medium.

(Panaskan minyak dalam penggorengan dengan api medium.)

7. Beat 2 eggs slightly for coating the potato later, prepare one plate filled with bread crumbs too.

(Kocok pelan dua butir telur untuk lapisan kentang, siapkan satu piring berisi tepung panir/ tepung roti.)

8. Dredge the potato in the beaten egg. Take the potato out and drain the excess egg. Directly roll the potato on the bread crumbs and fry it. Fry the croquettes until golden brown for couple minutes only. Drain the excess oil using shieve/ paper towel. Serve the croquettes warm!

(Gulingkan kentang dalam telur kocok, tiriskan telur yang berlebih. Langsung gulingkan lagi kentang berlumur telur di tepung panir/ tepung roti lalu goreng hingga keemasan selama beberapa menit saja. TIriskan minyaknya dan sajikan kroket hangat.)
