Ja Siu (Roasted Pork) (Bilingual Eng-Indo)

This famous roastie can be served with warm steam rice, noodles, to buns filling. Easy to prepare and quick to cook. Enjoy!

(Teman-teman ini resep Ja Siu yang biasa aku bikin di rumah, Bahannya cukup gampang, masaknya pun mudah dan tergolong cepat, tapi rasanya mantap, bisa disajikan sama nasi putih panas, mie telur, atau dibuat bakpau ja siu. Yuk, buruan bikin!)

Ja Siu (Roasted Pork) (Bilingual Eng-Indo)

 Ingredients:

– 600 grams – 1 kg pork shoulder (daging babi bagian pundak)

– 1 tablespoon of garlic powder (bubuk bawang putih)

– 1 teaspoon of coriander seed powder (ketumbar bubuk)

–  1 tablespoon of red dyed rice powder (angkak –> tumbuk halus)

– 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper (merica bubuk)

– 1 tablespoon if 5 Spice powder (Chinese spice podwer) (Bubuk 5 Spice yang bisa dibeli di supermarket)

– 2 star anise (bunga pekak)

– 5 tablespoons of sugar (gula pasir)

– 4 tablespoons of soy sauce (kecap asin)

– 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce (saus tiram)

– salt (garam secukupnya)

– 8 tablespoons of honey (madu)

Steps:

1. Begin with making the marinade sauce : mix together all the ingredients, except for the meat.

(Membuat saus rendaman: campur semua bahan dalam mangkuk besar kecuali daging. Aduk rata.)

2. Marinate the pork in the sauce and cover with plastic wrap overnight in a fridge.

(Rendam daging babi dalam saus dan tutup rapat dengan plastik semalaman di lemari es.)

3. The day after, preheat the oven to 180 C. Place the pork aluminum foil and wrap it tight.

(Keesokan harinya, panaskan oven hingga 180 C. Bungkus daging dalam kertas aluminum rapat.)

 4. Roast the pork in the wire rack for 15 minutes.

(Panggang daging babi di atas rak jaring selama 15 menit.)

 5. Add 1 tablespoon of honey to the marinate sauce and mix well. Open the oven, peal the aluminum foil, and brush the pork with the sauce once more. Roast for another 10 minutes.

(Tambahkan 1 sendok makan madu kedalam saus rendaman dan aduk rata. Buka oven dan buka aluminum foil, oles permukaan daging dengan saus. Panggang kembali selama 10 menit.)

6. Repeat the brushing process once more. Roast for another 10 minutes.

(Ulangi mengoles daging sekali lagi dan panggang kembali selama 10 menit.)

 7. Slice the Ja Siu the way you like! Enjoy!

    Looks so easy! Cha siu is a real comfort food. Can you suggest a substitute for soy bean paste please?

      Dear Grace, thanks for the comment!
      Yes, me myself never think that making jasiu will be this simple and easy. Well, my first attempt of jasiu was also used no soy bean paste, I used soy sauce instead, and it still tasted nice..I also put some sweet sauce once, and it also spruce up the taste.

    Hi, resep2nya sangat menginspirasi sekali..
    btw totalnya Jasiu hanya dioven 25menit ya?
    kmarin saya pernah coba panggang pakai oven yg biasa utk kue kering (pakai kompor), sekitar 20+20mnt bolak balik, saya potong dan tengahnya msh agk juicy (pink berair tp sdh agk matang,tp saya nggak suka..hueek)
    saya coba oven lg extra 10mnt, sdh agk lbh matang, setelah dingin saya iris2 tipis ternyata teksturnya keras bgt, kira2 teknik agar dagingnya empuk diovennya hrs bgmn ya?
    soalnya kalau cuma 25mnt sptnya bakal msh merah tengahnya..

      halo Jo, saya pakai oven confection biasa, belum pernah pakai oven tangkring (oven kompor) wah mungkin potongan dagingnya yang agak besar jadi butuh waktu lebih lama, hahaha memang kontur jasiu kan kering gitu, mangkanya dia diiris tipis tipis aja, bukan tebal seperti Siobak, saya bikin juga cenderung keras juga. pernah coba pake daging babi untuk steak malah kurang pas, nggak dapet kontur kering dagingnya. Semoga membantu dan terima kasih ya apresiasinya Jo^^
