Indonesian “Pisang Bolen” Banana Pastrypuff (Bilingual-Eng-Indo)

After several day craving for this homey snack favorite of mine, I decide to made them myself one afternoon. This recipe though, is the simple one, no need long time to prepare, yet give you beautiful domed banana puff more than you can imagine. Now, get inspired!

(Teman-teman ini aku share resep Pisang Bolen yang biasa aku buat di rumah. Kangen berat sama camilan satu ini, dan karena deserate gagal menemukan pastry puff, jadinya aku coba bikin sendiri pastry nya. Pake cara paling simple tapi tetep jadi lapisan khas bolen yang lembut dibawah tapi solid dipermukaan atas. Satisfying!!! Ayuk, coba bareng-bareng!)

Homemade Pisang Bolen (Banana Pastry Puff)

Ingredients : (for 8 Puffs/ untuk 8 bolen)

– 1, 2 cup of all purpose flour (150 grams) (tepung terigu)

– 1/4 cup of butter (57 grams) (mentega)

– 1 tablespoon of icing sugar (gula halus putih/ gula bubuk)

– 2 egg yolk (kuning telur)

– 1/4 teaspoon of salt (garam)

– 50 ml of cold water (air dingin)

– 4 sheets of Cheddar Cheese (keju Cheddar lembaran)

– some granulated white sugar (gula pasir secukupnya: untuk isian)

– some bananas (pisang matang)

Steps:

1. Shift in flour in a big bowl and put in cut butter, press the butter using fork and blend it together with the flour, icing sugar, and salt forming lumps.

(Saring tepung ke dalam sebuah mangkuk besar dan masukkan potongan mentega ke dalam nya, tekan-tekan mentega dengan garpu hingga tercreai-berai, campurkan merata dengan tepung, gula halus dan garam hingga berbentuk gumpalan-gumpalan)

2. Put in only 1 egg yolk and mix well.

(Masukkan 1 kuning telur dan aduk rata.)

3. Pour in the cold water. Mix well forming dough ball.

(Tuang air dingin dan aduk rata membentuk bola adonan.)

 4. In a working surface, knead the dough ball until it’s smooth and elastic (for about 5 minutes)

(Di permukaan meja datar, uleni bola adonan hingga mulus dan elastis (kurang lebih selama 5 menit.)

5. After 5 minutes kneading, start to flatten the dough with rolling pin to make long rectangle shape. Fold the rectangle onto 3 part. Press and flatten it again onto long rectangle. Repeat folding it onto 3. Repeat again process number 5 for 3 more times.

(Setelah 5 menit diuleni, mulai ratakan/ gilas adonan menjadi persegi panjang. Lipat menjadi 3 bagian. Gilas lagi menjadi persegi panjang. Lipat kembali menjadi 3 bagian. Ulangi proses nomor 5 sebanyak 3 kali.)

6. Put in the elastic dough inside a plastic bag and keep it in a fridge for 1 hour.

(Simpan bola adonan di alam kantung plastik rapat dan masukkan kedalam lemari es salama 1 jam.)

 7. Take the dough out from the fridge and preheat your oven to 160 C.

(Keluarkan adonan dari kulkas dan panaskan oven hingga 160 C.)

8. Flatten the dough to form big rectangle with 3 mm thickness.

(Gilas adonan menjadi bentuk persegi panjang yang besar dengan ketebalan 3 mm.)

9. Cut the dough to 8 equal rectangles. Cut the cheese sheet in half.  Cut the banana onto 2 and slice them each.

(Potong adonan menjadi 8 persegi panjang. Potong lembaran keju menjadi 2 bagian. Potong pisang menjadi 2 bagian, belah masing masing potongan.)

10. Lay on half of the cheese on the pastry dough, continued with banana and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.

(Letakkan separuh bagian keju lembaran diatas adonan pastry, diikuti dengan potongan pisang, dan 1/2 sendok teh gula pasir.)

11. Roll the dough tight. Secure the tip by folding them below. Place the puffs in your baking tray with baking paper on/ buttered casserole with 1 cm space each puff..

(Gulung adonan hingga tertutup rapat. Tutup bagian kanan kirinya dengan melipatnya kebawah. Letakkan berjajar di pan pemanggang/ casserole yang telah dioles mentega/ diberi kertas baking didasarnya, beri jarak 1 cm tiap bolen.)

12. Beat the remain 1 egg yolk, brush the yolk on the top surface of the puffs.

(Kocok 1 kuning telur dan sapukan merata diatas permukaan bolen.)

13. Bake the puffs for 30 minutes. Then, turn the heat to 180 C for 5-8 minutes until the surface of the puffs golden brown.

(Panggang bolen selama 30 ment. Kemudian, naikkan suhu oven ke 180 C dan panggang lagi selama 5-8 menit hingga permukaannya kuning keemasan.)

14. Take the puffs out of the oven and let cool completely on a cooling rack. Serve with your fave tea!

(Keluarkan bolen dari oven dan biarkan mendingin sempurna. Sajikan dengan teh favoritmu!^^)
